Minister for Education and Sports, Phout Simmalavong, alongside Australia’s Ambassador to Laos, Megan Jones, recently visited a primary school in Kham district, Xiengkhouang Province, to witness the implementation of the revised national primary curriculum. This collaborative effort aims to enhance the quality of primary education in Laos and foster student engagement through innovative teaching approaches.

During the visit, Minister Phout emphasized the importance of quality education as the cornerstone of national prosperity, highlighting the integration of new teaching methods facilitated by Australia's support. Ambassador Jones reiterated Australia's commitment to the long-term partnership with Laos in education, underscoring the joint efforts to improve primary education and revise the curriculum through programs like BEQUAL.

The officials observed Lao Language, Science, Environment, and English classes, witnessing firsthand how students are actively engaged in learning through practical activities and hands-on experiences. They commended the dedication of teachers and emphasized the vital role of ongoing teacher professional development in fully implementing the revised curriculum.

The BEQUAL program, led by the Lao government with support from Australia and USAID, focuses on enhancing educational outcomes, especially for vulnerable and disadvantaged youth, while promoting gender equality and inclusive education.
